Ep. 204: Social Habits During Quarantine

TheHabitCoachEpisode204.png

Did you know that the longest solitary confinement sentence was 44 years!
Solitary confinement has been one of the worst ways to punish someone. This is because we are social animals, and we need social interaction to feel happy and to feel alive. As soon as that is taken away, we are left with our thoughts.

Right now, the entire world is in some form of confinement. We've lost our abilities to be free and venture out. We've lost the ability to be social, among other things that we used to take for granted.
Especially if you live by yourself, times like these may be exceptionally tough.
On this episode, Ashdin talks about the social habits we can keep during this quarantined time to make it the most social times of our lives. Tune in to find out how.

Ep. 203: Expert vs Expertise

TheHabitCoachEpisode203.png

Did you know that 10,000 hours of practise is what is needed to master something? Malcolm Galdwell wrote about it in his book 'Outliers'.
This idea sounds very appealing and simple, but we must remember, it's not just about the 10,000 hours, it's more about 'deliberate practise'.

On this episode, Ashdin talks about how we should chase expertise, and not being experts. Why is the distinction so important? Tune in to find out.

Ep. 202: Failing a Diet

TheHabitCoachEpisode202.png

Did you know that the average adherence to a diet is about 40%? Numerous studies have been done on diets, and it was found that only 40-60% of people complete a diet. And almost everyone will cheat on a diet a couple of times at least. This is because following a diet is like a challenge, it's a sheer show of will.

On this episode, Ashdin talks about what is the right way to deal with failing a diet, or a similar challenge. Do you start all over again? Do you continue and power through the rest of the diet? Tune in to find out.

HabitCoach_Template_ep.199_1920X1080-04.png

Did you know that the origins of 'Casual Fridays' started in Hawaii? They started a trend called aloha Fridays. What's important to note is that the dress code actually made a difference in the productivity of employees. In some creative organisations, a casual dress code increased productivity. Although, in sales, a stricter dress code was what worked.

Ep. 196: Holi-day

TheHabitCoachEp196.png

Did you know that most ancient cultures had no word to describe the word 'blue'? Nowhere in Greek mythology is the word to describe blue used. They talk about red, black and white.
This led to the question. If we don't have a name for something, do we recognise that it is there? Turns out, no we don't. We have to constantly expand our consciousness to see more.
Holi is a good reminder to add colour to your lives. On this episode, Ashdin talks about how we can live a more colourful life, full of new interesting things, with no more monotony. Turn into the episode to find out how.

Ep. 194: Minimalism - Give Things Away

TheHabitCoachEp194.png

Did you know that at the height of the Cold War, it was estimated that the United States had about 32,000 nuclear weapons and the Soviet Union had another 33,000 nuclear weapons?
Today, having reduced the number of weapons, the US still spends about 50 billion dollars a year to maintain and service them.
This is where we can draw parallels to our lives. Our lives are filled with things and belongings that we have around for 'just in case' situations. From the clothes we keep, to the shoes we wear, to the washing machine that stopped working 2 years back and is now used as a shelf to put things on.
We keep them because...well, how can we throw them away?
On this episode, Ashdin tells us tips to decluttering our lives and surroundings by cleaning up all the closed up spaces at home. Tune in to find out how.

TheHabitCoachEp192.png

Did you know that lying is actually bad for your health? Many studies have been conducted where they show that lies increase our stress level, thus affecting our bodies.
Turns out lying is bad for the brain too. Lying has so many negative aspects to it. You start with one lie and then you are forced to keep lying and coming up with bigger and more elaborate lies.
But, could there be a good way to lie? Of course there is! On this episode, Ashdin tells us how we can learn to lie about the future. Lies about about things we want to achieve. Tune in to find out how we can do that.

TheHabitCoachEp191.png

Did you know that the fingers in our hands have no muscles? All movements in the fingers is controlled by ligaments. Hence, there are no exercises to grow the muscles in your hands, because there aren't any.

HabitCoachEp190.png

Did you know that not all years that are divisible by 4 are leap years?
All this business of days in a year can be quite confusing. But it is cutting edge science! For instance, we added a leap second a few years ago. We didn't notice of course, but we technically had an extra second added to our lives, just like we have an extra day added this year.
It's like you have been gifted time. What do you do with it?
On this episode of The Habit Coach, Ashdin tells you how to have a healthy relationship with time, while not fearing it or becoming a slave to it. Tune in to find out how.

Did you know that there is no one hormone that causes us to get angry? Which means that anger is a very complex emotion.
The world is divided into two kinds of people. The first has no control over their anger and it consumes them. The second has too much control over their rage and they are able to shove it deep inside and bury it. Both are unhealthy! Which one are you?
On this episode, Ashdin talks about the kind that has no control over their anger. Tune in to find out more.

Did you know that the first commercially available first aid kit was created by none other than Johnson & Johnson?
Fist aid kits are typically for physical conditions. But what about first aid kits for our emotional state.
Think about it, when we are passing through a very emotional state, filled with negative thoughts, don't we feel like we are dying inside?
On this episode, Ashdin takes us down a few habits and principles we can follow when dealing with emotional injuries. Tune in to find out what they are.

Ep. 186: Mystic And Spiritual

Did you know that the whirling dance or meditation of the Sufi has a very fun origin? It involves a 13th-Century mystic, a clanking hammer, whirling, dizziness and a trance-like state of complete peace and ecstacy.
Ashdin just had his first experience of this yesterday. He went to a Sufi workshop, half expecting to fall flat on his face with all the spinning. Feel dizzy and disoriented. However, he encountered a great feeling of peace.
On this episode, Ashdin talks about being open to exploring spirituality and mysticism. These are often touchy subjects because of our logical mind, our thinking mind and our scientific mind do not accept it. We only believe in things we understand or can explain.

However, there is a big difference between the things we can feel and the things we can understand. Tune in to the episode to understand this better.
