Ep. 55: Done DNA Done

On this episode, our troika of Wiki-pilfering stalwarts explains something that is inherent in all of us. No, not that sense of despair about Mondays, but our genetic code, DNA! We unravel what this thing that you forgot after 8th standard biology class is, and more importantly - look at its application in storage devices. Yes, that's right. Soon, you'll be able to store close to 200000 years' worth of high-res music on a square mm of DNA storage! The little drawback of course is the thing is ridiculously expensive to use. All deets in this episode!

Ep. 54: DRS Who?

Celebrating the Indian cricket team’s recent (PETA approved) spanking of the Kangaroos in the test series, we get together to Simblify the new and controversial tech innovation in cricket – the uDRS – or Umpire Decision Review System.

Chuck (@chuck_gopal), Naren (@shenoyn) and Srikeit (@Srikeit) talk about the DRS components, the innovative tech behind it and why someone would conspire to add waiting time to a 5-day game of catch that has plenty of standing around to begin with. All in a listen as sweet as that firm knock of a Sachin straight drive.

Ep. 53: Grubs Can Be Grub

The podders get together this time for a culinary special. But put away your MasterChef fantasies, this is about gourmet… bugs. Enter the fascinatingly terrifying world of entomophagy - the practice of using insects as food.
Listen in to learn about the cultural practices of insect eating, why it can be more nutritious, necessary and even tasty. Find out what your favourite insects taste like and let Chuck ‘bug’ you with an creepy-crawly pun-run.

Do give us a shout on Twitter and let Naren (@shenoyn), Chuck (@chuck_gopal) and Srikeit (@Srikeit) know what you think of this episode and Simblified.

Ep. 52: ISRO, Ro, Ro, Your Boat, Gently up to Space...

Our space agency has given us lots to be proud about recently! ISRO's stupendous achievement of launching 100+ satellites is remarkable, and has brought old stats involving auto rickshaw fares and a certain cartoon back into the limelight, including petulance from The New York Times.

Join the podcastronauts Chuck, Srikeit and Naren as they fly their spaceship of wisdom with a payload of bad jokes to the orbit of space exploration, how ISRO works and the only pun possible on the word 'equinox'. It's all happening here on Simblified, so 3, 2, 1...

Memorable quote from the episode:

Naren - A PSLV Rocket is as humongous as a 14 storey building.

Srikeit - Then we have hope that one day Antilla will take off and go away.

Ep. 51: Solar, so good

In this episode, our trinity of babblers talk about solar energy in the light (hehe) of Tesla announcing the Gigafactory will be powered by the sun. What's a Tesla? What's a gigafactory? What's a sun? Don't worry - we answer it all. And (sorry) Chuck does a pun run on all things celestial. Even the Gods were not spared.

Ep. 50: Bud-Jaitley Speaking

This week, in a special Chuck-free Simblified we demystify the process of the bureaucratic behemoth, that is the Union Budget of India. From the impact (or lack of it) of this year’s budget, we meander into the bylanes of India’s budgetary history to uncover some little known fiscal quirks, apart from the usual boring money talk.

Srikeit (@Srikeit) and Naren (@shenoyn) try valiantly to make up for the Chuck’s (@chuck_gopal) absence with some pitiful groaners but fall woefully short!

Ep. 49: A CESspool of Gadgets and Nonsense

This week, Chuck and Srikeit (minus Naren) talk about the Consumer Electronics Show and what shiny new gadgets have graced us. Will LG's new OLED TV be the way forward? What on earth will an IOT-connected dustbin do? Will Chuck do a verse-based quiz for worst products of the CES including a vibrating pair of shorts (Hint: yes). All this and more on this high-tech episode of Simblified!

Ep. 48: Simblifying the Year, Part 2

Happy new year and all that! What better way to ditch the annus horriblis of 2016 by recapping it with plenty of poor jokes?

Join Chuck, Naren and Srikeit as we look at what happened in the second part of the year, including demonitisation, Rio Olympics and Pokemon Go and of course the Orange Revolution.

Have a kickass new year folks, and your resolution should be to share our podcast and listen to it more!

Naren, Srikeit and Chuck are available at @shenoyn, @Srikeit and @chuck_gopal respectively.

Ep. 47: Simblifying the year 2016, Part 1

Now that was a fairly horrible year, wasn't it? From all those folks dying, to a wackjob becoming president of the Philippines (oh, and another one of the US), to the fact that the Kya Kool Hai Kum franchise is still going strong. But hey, there have been several other things to talk about as well. We on Simblified attempt to do a quick recap of the year and help to get you up to speed in case you have conversations on the year go by (impress people with your knowledge of things that happened in January to elicit an 'oh yeaaaaaaaaaaah!').
Also, on this episode, we're proud to introduce a new co-host: Srikeit! Simblified loyalists will know we interviewed him two episodes back when he told us about Wikipedia. So yeah, 50% more crock every week!
And of course, Naren and Chuck are available at @shenoyn and @chuck_gopal in case you need to send them Christmas presents and rocks.
Happy new year :D

Ep. 46: When pigs, er, cars fly!

Stuck at Western Express Highway or Silk Board junction? Wishing there was a better way to commute? Well, thanks to Uber, that might just happen! The app most commonly known for the 'gig economy' and making startup news has recently released a massive document outlining a future where flying cars are as common but more useful than selfie sticks.

Join Chuck and Naren as they dig into this fascinating world of VTOL vehicles - how they work, why this is important, will we crash into each other, whether this means Koramangala will finally be bearable, and lots more. No better place to listen to this than while stuck in traffic.

If you're interested in flying cars (or the Jetsons) enough to read the full document, here you go: https://www.uber.com/elevate.pdf

Also, you can follow the hosts on Twitter : @chuck_gopal and @Shenoyn. Tell us what you think and win a free dinner with us. Which you will have to cook. Maybe.

Ep. 45: Behind the NH7 Weekender: A chat with Vijay Nair

For seven years, music fans across the country have been looking forward to the Bacardi NH7 Weekender. This is more than a music festival, it's come to become a movement and celebration of all types of music, and has become bigger year-on-year! From a crowd of 'scenesters' in 2010 to 1.25 lakh people across 5 cities in 2015; from just Pune to traversing all across the country - the Weekender has set standards in terms of how a music festival should be in India.

And Chuck doesn't say all this just because he works at OML (who brings out the Weekender). Or because he's a Weekender megafan who hasn't missed a single day of Pune. No.

This week, we're super-proud to have a scene legend, the CEO of OML - Vijay Nair - with us. We talk about what inspired him to start the Weekender, what it takes to build a festival like this, and how artists are billed. If you're a Weekender fan - or just want to get inspired really (and not necessarily because of Naren's poor jokes) - listen!

Follow Vijay on Twitter at @vijay_nair and come to the Weekender in Pune (Dec 2-4, 2016) by picking up tickets here: insider.in/event/bacardi-nh7-weekender-2016-pune-dec2-4

Ep. 44: The Wiki Quickie

If there's one website that all MBA and Engineering college hostelites are indebted... OK, let us rephrase that, one which is legally allowed to be seen by college authorities - it's Wikipedia. Probably the most valuable website ever, and a collection of all human knowledge (well, most of it anyway), Wikipedia is an amazing success in crowdsourcing and self-moderation. Today, we talk to Srikeit (@srikeit) who is an admin of the site, and (this is badass) has most of the pronunciation files of Indian cricketers there!

It's a fascinating conversation on how Wikipedia works, his personal experiences being an admin, meeting a sloshed Jimmy Wales and more. We hope you enjoy the episode!

Naren and Chuck don't have their own Wiki pages, but you can follow / troll them on Twitter: @shenoyn and @chuck_gopal.

Ep. 43: Comedy of the year: US Elections

It's been a morose year, what with terrorist attacks and beloved personalities conking off. Good thing then, that we've been treated to the longest running display of two elderly folk squabbling like they're claiming rights to a swing in a kid's park. Of course, there are both disastrous and hilarious consequences to either occupying the top spot. Simblified takes a small look.

Of course, Chuck and Naren have a little Irish Drinking Song as well for you, possibly the only one on the US Elections. So there.

Say hi to us on twitter! @chuck_gopal and @shenoyn are us!

Ep. 41: The comedy show that is BCCI vs Lodha

Few standup shows in the country have matched up to the hilarity provided by the BCCI vs Justice Lodha Committee. Some of the court's official statements will make you not just guffaw but have renewed faith in the judiciary. Naren and Chuck bring you everything you need to know and end with an Irish Drinking Song dedicated to the BCCI - surely the only one of its kind out there.

Hey, do us a favour, and rate us on iTunes? That'd be sweet. We could use 'em ratings and stuff :)
If you like the show, please feel free to tell us so: @chuck_gopal and @shenoyn on Twitter are us, and say hi on the Simblified page on Facebook!

Ep. 40: Chips to Kill for (no, really)

In this month's episode of not-from-Faking-News, US prisoners fall in love with in-jail chips so much they're willing to risk re-incarceration for a bite. What are these chips? Where can you get them? Why are chips so goddamn tasty (evil corporations!)? What the hell are MRPs apart from prices that pubs never seem to follow? This week's shortie tells you all that and more.

We'd love to hear from you. So ping us on @chuck_gopal and @shenoyn and tell us what you think of Simblified.

Ep. 39: A Very Explosive Episode

Recently, a certain phone company has been in the news for the wrong reasons - their products are literally setting the market on fire. So why is this happening? What's the science behind batteries? Is is possible to make puns even for a serious issue like this? Chuck and Naren traverse the murky waters of Lithium-Ion batteries and equate them to warring in-laws.

PS: In the episode, we reference product recalls. You can find a full list of ignominy here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Product_recall

We'd love to hear from you. So ping us on @chuck_gopal and @shenoynand tell us what you think of Simblified.

Ep. 38: Writers Of/On Substance

Artists have always been a troubled lot and many have turned to drugs or alcohol to douse the same flame that fanned their art. Writers are no different. You might not believe it, exposed as you are to people who produce entire articles out of a tweet that went very mildly viral, but writers are artists too and here are a few genius writers and poets who produced their finest under the influence.

Ep. 37: A Conversation with the Iron Men

What's the most you've worked out in a day? Whatever the answer, it doesn't matter - these folks have done more. Imagine swimming the minor matter of 3 km, then cycling 180 km, then running 42 km. A little more than a stroll to buy vegetables, you'll agree.
Today we talk to two amazing endurance athletes - Mehul Ved (@mehulved) and Nupur Shikhare (@nupur_popeye), who talk about their IronMan experiences, finding sponsors, how to train for such events and why on earth someone would even attempt doing something like this.

Hopefully we'll inspire you to get off your chairs and take the stairs. At least.

If you'd like to get your exercise by chasing Naren and Chuck down, get in touch at @shenoyn and @chuck_gopal. In that order. Maybe.

Ep. 36: Simblified: Can Potatoes Possibly be Poisonous?

It's one of the commonest foods around. The humble potato has, in the brief four centuries since it was introduced into the western world from South America, firmly occupied a prominent position is virtually every cuisine from Chinese to Indian to French. But did you know it could be poisonous enough to make you really ill? Chuck and Naren investigate and find out that the answer is a meek but positive 'yes'.

But don't give up on those fries yet. Doesn't happen very often, thank goodness. If you are overwhelmed by this piece of good news, chime in and say hello at@shenoyn and @chuck_gopal
